From the Director's Desk

I have had the honor and privilege of being part of this Institute for past three years and a very satisfying experience to help in setting up the lush green sprawling campus of NIBMG. Institute was established in 2009, and moved to this beautiful campus in 2017. It is an enlightening experience to see the Institute constantly thrive and achieve. Our ‘Vision and Mission’ is ‘Accelerating Genomics for Health, Research, Training and capacity building’.

The ultimate goal is to create a facility where leads from the genomic studies can be functionally validated using experimental biology approaches. Our Institute is now well equipped with State of Art facility on next- generation sequencing, proteomics facilities, Biosafety laboratories, Zebrafish facility for functional genomics and addressing trivial questions in various domains like Cancer, infectious diseases and complex disorders. The major thrust is of course on the genomic underpinnings of human diseases: promoting the concept of systems medicine. In parallel, stage is set to study the molecular basis of disease progression towards finding a solution and serve the society.

NIBMG is continuing to expand its scientific interactions with the society by providing access to its high-end, high-throughput technology platforms through its Core Technologies Research Initiative (CoTeRI) and National Genomics Core (NGC). We are also at the forefront of several national and international collaborative projects, where our expertise in generating large scale genomic data and analysis plays an instrumental role. We are looking forward to more collaborations and interactions with clinicians which would be aimed at effective translation of our research leading to public health care solutions.

Currently, NIBMG is leading the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) which has been set up for continuous Genomic Surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 within India for early detection of genomic variants with public health implication.

Research in this institute indeed encompasses a wide canvas, steered by a dynamic team of expert scientists and enthusiastic work-force with skillful technical and administrative staff.

Finally, I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my predecessors for successfully steering NIBMG to this stage with the unique identity. The institute has survived well through both the COVID-19 pandemic waves and has immensely contributed in the scientific intervention of SARS-CoV-2. I express my heart-felt gratitude to all members of NIBMG family for their constant endeavor towards perfection and striving hard for overall upliftment of this Institution. I thank the members of the Governing Body as well as our Scientific Advisory Committee; their mentoring has been crucial in our journey. I am sure with sincere and collective effort of NIBMG family, the Institute will soon expand its horizon to a newer height.
